Italy’s economy experienced modest growth in the second quarter of 2026, with its Gross Domestic Product (GDP) rising by 0.2% from the previous quarter, according to recent data. This quarterly increase aligns with earlier predictions and marks a year-on-year GDP rise of 1.0%. The growth in this period was largely driven by a 0.2% increase in both household and nonprofit consumption, as well as gross fixed investment.

Despite the positive contributions from domestic demand, net foreign demand negatively impacted Italy’s economic performance. While imports surged by 1.5%, exports increased by only 1.0%. This imbalance contributed to the overall economic dynamics for the quarter.

The services sector played a key role in supporting the economic expansion, recording a growth of 0.4%. This helped offset declines in other areas, such as agriculture, forestry, and fishing, which saw a 0.1% decrease, and the industrial sector, which contracted by 0.6%.

The report also highlighted the carry-over effect for Italy’s GDP growth in 2026, estimated at 0.8%. This effect indicates the influence of the current quarter’s growth on the future economic performance for the year.
